Manufacturing Door Handle With Backplate
- How to Replace Old Style Door Handles with Backplate?
- Door Handles Gallery with Backplate
When door handles and locks have been in use for a long time and no longer provide adequate security, it is time to replace them. If your other door locks and hardware are still in good condition, you only need to replace the handle set (including the backplate). Fortunately, you can complete this task quickly using just a screwdriver and a tape measure.
- Step 1: Take Accurate Measurements
Before installing a new door handle with a backplate, you need to determine specific measurements from the old door handle assembly(specifically the center-to-center distance )and the spindle size. (The spindle is the small rectangular bar that connects the handle to the lock body; if the new spindle is too large, it will not fit the existing lock body.) Getting these measurements right is crucial for 、purchasers and retail buyers.
- Step 2: Remove the Old Door Handle with Backplate
Secure the door in place. Use a screwdriver to remove the four screws from the door handle (note: some models may only have two screws), then remove the old handle.
- Step 3: Clean the Backplate Area & Inspect the Mortise Lock Body
Clean away any dust from the area behind the backplate and wipe it down with a cloth. Press the latch on the lock body; if the latch sticks significantly or fails to move smoothly, the lock body needs to be replaced.
- Step 4: Install the New Door Handle with Backplate
You need to connect the lock body to the door handle using the spindle. Then, align the backplate with the mounting holes; use one hand to hold the mounting screws in place while using a screwdriver with the other to secure them. If the existing screw holes do not align, you will need to use a tool to drill new holes for the mounting screws.
- Step 5: Test Door Handles
Once the installation is complete, test the door handle several times. Check for any stiffness or sticking when pressing the handle down and ensure the latch retracts smoothly.
Important Notes:
When contacting a door lock manufacturer for bulk orders, pay close attention to the following specifications: backplate dimensions, mounting dimensions, spindle size, handle material, and surface finish. If the manufacturer does not list these details in their catalog or on their website, contact them immediately with your specific measurements and requirements; they can then customize a compatible replacement product tailored to your lock body.
